In which there is nasty weather and a small con
We ran into some...weather...on the way to Charlotte. We stopped for fast food about halfway to Greenville, and as we were placing our order, the power went out. We still ate, but getting back on the highway was tricky without traffic lights. I estimate we lost about 2 hours to torrential thunderstorms.

Some fun signs along the way:

LEATHER
MATTRESSES
ENTERTAINMENT

Jesus is Lord at Bargain Shoes (in neon, no less)

And then there was Bedtyme Stories Adult Store. We didn't stop to find out if Jesus was Lord there.

The con is very small, and seems to be mostly gaming and LARP oriented. There's a whole huge Stargate contingent in fatigues with some frighteningly realistic weapons, a division of the 501st, and a pirate play group. The SCA is also out in force.

I got up early for a costuming panel, then spent the rest of the day alternately wandering around and poking into panels. I have to be sure and poke at unobtrusive times so I don't jingle loudly enough to interrupt the proceedings. The costume is getting quite a bit of attention. There aren't a lot of hall costumes besides the fatigues and the piratewear. :)

I just got out of a Spider Robinson reading, where he read from Variable Star, a book he wrote based on extensive outline notes found in the Heinlein estate after Ginny's death. It's funny, bits of it sound like Spider, but other bits are obviously pure Heinlein.
