I took advantage of my last free day before classes start to hit the Decatur thrift stores and the fabric store for various costume bits. The haul:
White queen sized sheet set--enough white fabric to make harem pants for an Aladding costume for Aaron. (No, I am not dressing as Princess Jasmine; the Aladdin idea came up bc it will allow him to go shirtless and be comfortably cool.) Sweat pants pattern for same.
Yellow/gold pillowcase to be turned into Aladdin's sash.
Purple fabric and vest pattern for same costume.
Red fun foam to make Aladdin's fez.
Plaid skirt and white oxford blouse for Susan Sto Helit's school uniform. I'll need to shorten the skirt, which will give me enough extra fabric for a matching ascot tie.
1/2" sheet of foam core to make the blade for Susan's scythe. This will get attached to a broom handle. (I looked at costume scythes at Party City around Halloween--too short and wimpy. Susan needs a scythe with autority.)
3 pair of shorts for Aaron (not costume related--he just needed the shorts).
Round about 4:30 I discovered, to my chagrin, that it was not Saturday, and therefore would have a rush hour. So rather than sit in traffic for an hour, I picked up
vatavian from work for some dinner. We picked up some takeout for
rslatkin and met her at the house. A much pleasanter way to spend a few hours than sitting in traffic!
